    Yes you're on it.

    On a very broad level they can be thermometers of mass human psychology and at a more functional level they can be barometers to detect change in market sentiment. And on a personal level they can send you crazy trying to force clarity from a thinly traded jumble so have sympathy.

    All good, in the end they are just a tool.
