I think we end up with cardboard cutout characters for sports stars if their "office" prevents them from expressing a view in an area that might be controversial. If the vast majority of the audience for his comments don't have the maturity to give a cricketer's view on politics its appropriate (light) weight, then our problems are far greater than a cricketer not "Knowing his place."
