I'd like to let teachers teach. Get on with the job, rather than spend their days, nights and weekends on meetings, policy papers and useless bureaucratic admin.
To this end, I would invite all education curriculum and policy staff nationwide to a big conference. There, we could lock the doors and ship them off to Manus Island. Teachers would then be able to focus on their actual job and learn off the best of their peers who are getting the best results, all determined by evidence, not ideology.
And throw in plenty of sport and creative activities like music too, as research has shown that helps develop good problem solving, lateral thinking, positive behaviour and happiness in young people. Who knows, students may not just learn more, they and their teachers may look forward to going to school every day.
