The Hippocratic oath that all Doctors adhere to - roughly translated is “First, do no harm”.
The skepticism you describe stems from a lack of scientific or evidence based efficacy testing for specific conditions where it can be proven effective and also harmless when compared to other gold standard treatments.
Partly this lack of evidence stems from the fact it’s been illegal for so long and therefore there has been no systematic testing.
