ANZ and Westpac have successfully sold Government-guaranteed bonds in offshore markets, as the queue of borrowers gets longer.
ANZ raised $US1.75 billion ($2.7 billion) in two-part bonds, becoming the first issuer to test investor appetite for Government-guaranteed offshore bonds out of Asia-Pacific.
Westpac raised $US1.5 billion in Government-guaranteed offshore bonds
The ANZ offering, which has the backing of the triple-A-rated Australian Government, is widely expected to steer future debt sales from other Australian banks using a state guarantee to raise funds.
