Extracts from Sydney Morning Herald back a number of years ago, so maybe "takeover" has a different meaning to taking over a company??.
Greg Barnes, who controls Westrip, wants two seats on the GGG board, as per the joint-venture agreement, and has threatened to call an extraordinary general meeting to get his way. Barnes has also taken advice on making a Takeovers Panel application regarding Gravner's mystery stake in GGG, which seems to have breached the takeover requirements of the Corporations Act.
The second-biggest shareholder in GGG is a company called Westrip, which is a joint-venture partner of GGG in Greenland and helped broker a funding deal with * back in January. Westrip is controlled by Greg Barnes, who is also in some strife. He is embroiled in a legal battle with Chameleon Mining and its chairman, Benny Elias, over tenements that Murchison Metals bought in 2004, when Barnes was a director. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission has accused Barnes of providing false and misleading information in relation to Chameleon's $3 million float in 2003. He has been committed to stand trial on four criminal charges. Westrip sold the royalty rights to one of GGG's projects to * in 2007, and they went into a company he controlled called Hackleton.
It seems a few noses were out of joint following questioning of a deal in which Perth-based GGG paid $1.4 million plus options to a mystery adviser called Gravner, which is run out of the United Arab Emirates by a company called Exchange Minerals, to provide assistance with a mining deal in Greenland, which is owned in conjunction with a British-based joint-venture partner called Westrip, which is run out of Perth …
Then some deals/disputed were brokered with Gatto, one of your Australian Characters so its all interesting stuff when Westrip was involved.
All a bit weird as some would say here and thankfully in the past but it does raise questions obviously what went on and who.
