That's not how I remember the lead-up to the 2021 election.

Initially, uranium was not going to be targeted - but then suddenly it was.

It was pure hubris on the part of the GGG/ETM management who thought the pro-mine Siumut would win the election in a cantor, and so they persisted with a proposal to value-add to the project by mining uranium rather than just leaving it in the tailings.

There are always going to be strong anti-uranium opponents in the community, so why would you give them a 'free kick' before you have secured an exploitation licence.

GGG/ETM management were stupid for raising the bogeyman of uranium which IA was able to exploit to win the election.

If they had left uranium out of the picture then Siumut probably would have won the election and ETM would be in production today.
