My memory was that the public was pro the project . Certainly the local township held a majority of support for the project to open. The government at the time was in full support of the operations opening and GGG followed all guidance they were given .

It was only that the and leading party coalition had a fallout over the speed of approval of the project . The Democrats were gun-ho and upset the project wasn't being opened sooner. It was this falling out that evoked an early election. It was then that the greenies ran around with their pots and pans claiming headlines and intimidating locals into nonsense stories no one professional would ever fall for. Management were already in public consultation. As a part of their application they also included one that exempted the uranium by product utilisation option. It was then recommended by Clifford chance after a newly elected government came to power. To make it even more obvious that uranium could be left And not extracted by resubmitting this portion of the application with some minor clarification.

The consultation. was already underway when the greenies got upset. I don't think the company had much of an option at all to be honest. The application was exactly as was requested and given the green light by all environmental divisions in Denmark and Greenland. It was a safe bet until the pots and pans came out
