I'm going from memory here but I thought they stated that uranium would only add a 5% increase to profitability of the project and that was combined with zinc?
The greenies only really started to voice their opinion once the public consultations began and of course the merits and metrics had already been planned out with the numerous Greenlandic and Danish departments in order to present the operations intent together . In fact these divisions were working four the company in supporting their statements that the uranium had been dealt with suitably and posed little concern . I guess when you get that level of support from the government you feel compelled to run with it as in the end they do have the overriding decision regardless of what the populace states.
Now where I am a little more rusty is the timing of the election. I know it was not a scheduled one and it was due to a falling out between the coalition. A terribly timed and from that point it seemed that the greenies started throwing their weight around.
I do agree with what you say with management not attending the US led conference recently. Although it's very hard to know the specifics on why. It's most likely that they weren't invited for obvious legal reasons as it would have been an event arranged by the Greenland government and you can be sure they wouldn't have forwarded any invitation.
I have also thought if I ran the company I would have done so a little differently but I do admit I'm clearly not fully aware of all the particulates in order to decide. However they do seem quite responsive to any questions forwarded to them so maybe this is one we could raise
