BTEX is naturally occurring in coal seams, but it's not produced by CSG extraction. The issue with Cougar was that BTEX is actually generated during the UCG process and was detected in a non-coal seam aquifer due to the casing failure. It is slightly different.
Of course it doesn't change the fact Cougar's incident was a non-issue as far as pollution was concerned and that Cougar is a political scapegoat for a government and a minister who are both (hopefully) about to be booted out of office by Can-do Campbell.
