Many people will be asking the same question all week; what was the one major factor that cost Labor the popular vote?

Now some will say it was the debacle over the pink bats, others the school "sheds" affair and others the school computers. Others will claim it was the Super Tax on miners and others, the cumulative effect of it all.

But I for one still think that the Labor Party lost the popular vote because of what occurred to Rudd. Remember, Rudd is a Queenslander and one thing Queenslanders hate is some "southerner" shafting one of their own. This election was lost by Labor in Queensland. Sure, the NSW results were bad as well for Labor however had Labor held onto a few seats in Queensland, they may havereached that magical 76 seats needed to form a government in their own right.

So I do believe, the ALP has shot themselves in the foot.

What next? Gillard will have to go as a Labor leader and it will be either Swan or Smith as the next leader of the opposition imo.
