If Rudd comes back to lead the ALP it will be the second biggest mistake the ALP made, with appointing Gillard as PM over Rudd the biggest mistake.

The ALP need to distance themselves from both Rudd and Gillard and to an extent Swan so an "outsider" in Smith could be their best chance come the next election in another three years.

Of course, the power brokers within the ALP will have the say, and I think the NSW Branch may have some problems with Smith however they may have little option at the end of the day as all those who were in the "inner sanctum", the so called gang of four will be covered in so much blood as a result of this election they could never lead the party again.

My tip? Smith to become Leader of the Opposition.
