    The 200k tradie is itself a caricature, and if you think a typical tradie is on anything like that, you don't know many tradies. And in any case I would not consider anyone earning 200k "working class".

    Australia is not stratified to the US extent (the thread is after all about Trump), but is definitely stratified, and our political class, media etc do not represent the common man in any meaningful sense.

    As an exercise: look at any newspaper, be it left leaning or right leaning. Go to the opinion pages. If it is NSW, see if you can spot a single commentator who lives west of Strathfield. There aren't ANY. Same goes for TV.

    We get a diversity of views on a superficial level only, and people (like the original poster) are shocked when they discover different views are actually widespread, out in the burbs and the regions.
