Hello. I am simply trying to learn. Why do folks invest in SFR or similar companies such as LYC? The SFR share price is $10 and the market cap close $5 billion. I just now quickly compiled this spreadsheet of SFR's historic cashflows and also the last balance sheet. In summary:

    * SFR appears to have raised $1.3 billion in share capital averaging around $2.89 per share.

    * SFR appears to have paid around $249,308,000 in dividends averaging around 54 cents per share over its life.

    * SFR appears to currently have around negative $853,069 in net liquid assets; averaging around negative $1.86 per share.

    * If we remove the MATSA acquisition, SFR appears to have earned around $1.50 in net cash over its lifetime.

    * If i bought SFR at $2.89, i would have made $1.50 in cash earnings (thus it still owes me $1.39) and I currently owe $1.86 in debt.

    * I guess i am waiting for the new assets to make money but am not sure when the next dividend will be paid because of the debts.

What is the point of buying or holding this stock? I am confused. Thanks
