i do think that indians in melb do not try to assimilate to our society/culture. they are often rude and ignorant of common general courtesy that australian society functions under - things like not sitting on the seat on a train/tram when a lady or older person is standing, pointing the person serving you to another person who has been waiting longer than you, not standing in the middle of a footpath in the cbd in a group, etc. indians are used to a far more anarchical cities/society because of the way that india operates and the massive population and they come here a play by those rules here without realising that our rules are different. also, the indians that do come here tend to be the priveledged indians who think they are better than the common population. i think we need to be more accepting of them, but that they should also accept that they are living in a country with different rules/practices....
