why do lefties support people smugglers?

I don't understand.

I get the humanitarian aspect, saving life etc.

But these people are economic refugees. I don't believe they are genuinely in imminent threat of loss of life.

The Indonesian government has allowed tens of thousands of these people to leave their shores.

The majority of Australians wanted the boats to stop coming.

Both major parties responded accordingly, (ALP screaming & kicking) so why the outrage now?

Is it just a matter of politics for you people that protest?
