Why do "leftists" support Islam dispite Islam being incompatible with the values a "leftist" is supposed to hold? The answer is simple: Virtue Signalling. The greatest virtue a "leftist" has is the public display of Tolerance. Tolerance is to a "leftist" what piety is to the religious. The greatest display of peity/tolerance would be to endorse a religion/political/social movement that kills gays, stones adulterous women, and is anti-science. So when a "leftist" is being publically hanged, stoned to death, or taught the Earth is 6000 years old, they can take comfort in the fact they are the most Tolerant person in the world.
