Here's my evaluation of sin.

Adam and Eve had no idea of sin until they ate from the tree of the knowlege of good and evil, and then realised they had sinned.

So animals have no sense of right and wrong and it is only our sense of guilt that bears down on us.

Not a true story of course but a way of explaining why we feel the way we do when doing what harms others.
