You've speculated on the centurion's career path after his encounter with Christ, you've invited me to speculate along the same lines, and I now suspect that the author Barnes was also uttering mere speculations.
By contrast, the people who wrote the gospels were either eye-witnesses themselves, or scrupulous reporters of eye-witness evidence. They were so faithful to the truth that they reported evidence which at first sight actually seems to harm their cause.
