In terms of per capita income, India's coal tax is equivalent to around $A50/t. This tax is already being collected and used clean energy research and development. India already operates a nuclear power program and is pioneering the development of modern thorium power reactors. I expect the funds are being used to develop serious low carbon power rather than the high cost toys we have been choosing.
Australia is playing catch up with carbon taxes and the US is not in the race.
