Why would he want to pay off the national debt? He is busy moving his assets into the crypto that he previously declared was a scam and simultaneously smashing the US dollar, reducing govt tax income, creating the most unbalanced budgets ever seen, and destroying the institutions designed to keep it all together. All signs that he wants the US to default, destroying the general population whilst his personal assets are sitting ready to benefit from the carnage.
Or it could be that he its just incompetent. Either are possible I guess.
