Interestingly, if you look at the other stocks that dropped out of the ASX300 with CVN (eg. AMI, ASM, EML, BVS etc), the short positions for all of them dropped dramatically on 17 March. Presumably, the shorters in all these stocks bought back the shares (probably nearly all off-market) from the Index funds who were disposing of the shares. A smart strategy for the shorters.
