They sold BHP gold in the 80's. It ended up being integrated into Newmont Aust. The new company was named Newcrest in 1989 (being the merger between Newmont Australia & BHP Gold Mines). In doing so Newmont avoided a takeover by Poseidon Gold (later a part of Normandy).
