Hi Hairyback,they are not considered a business under the law. They are an association of members who contribute funds towards bettering their situation in the workplace and in the case of employer groups also are not operating a business but rather a non profit service for its employer members.. They are basically not much different to sporting, charitable, religious and other membership organisations including professional organisations. Looking at the expanse of areas that don't pay tax I don't believe any move will be made by any government here to require payment of tax. Too many electoral uncertainties involved. Were only employee unions targeted, that would be discriminatory and it would also point the light in the direction of all other tax exempt bodies.
