The latest data about foreign ownership focused on agricultural land. In discussing China, we also need to take note of just how many former Australian companies and assets are being bought up by China.....such as Hoyts Group, some of our golf courses, Whitsunday Islands, infrastructure, and even Virgin is more than one third owned by Chinese companies. These are just the tip of the iceberg. According to the Financial Review late in 2015, there were as many as 300 Chinese cattle and cattle-related companies looking to invest in Australia.
Accusations of "xenophobia" regarding this issue really don't cut the mustard with me. It's just a label resorted to by people who don't want to look at the deeper issues. Now is the time to make sure that future generations of Australians have the same sense of security and well-being that our generations have enjoyed. I don't specifically have anything against the Chinese, but with the overpopulating of the world that we are now beginning to recognise, isn't it only natural that their priorities will be directed to their own people. There might come a day when resources will be too depleted to cope with human demand and all the wealth in the world will do little to solve that problem - especially in countries that allow greedy generations to sell out the future of their children.
