Great read, thanks! His basic theme is WOW's hubris, with a lot more convincing detail than my comment.
He also makes the point convincingly that WOW may operate supermarkets with AUSTRALIA'S best practice (at the moment; hopefully Coles is closing the gap), but it is still far from WORLD'S best practice. Recall that the new Coles team is very much the Brits who took ASDA back from death's door to a business that Walmart bought for megabucks.
It may be MAS MACHO (as the Spanish say) to take on Bunnings for King of the Hardware Hill, but I somehow think WOW shareholders will wear the pain of the assault. It may be sporting to take on the 'best in class,' but it's easier to create shareholder value bullying a basket case in whatever sector!
