Received a very quick and comprehensive reply back from Ross overnight, explaining that dairy effluent is too concentrated for the current SABRE tech. I've replied to say that we also have many point sources of perhaps more suitable effluent such as that from freezing works and milk processing plants which, as far as I understand, are currently "treated" and discharged to water but still carry high nutrient loads. There might be scope to blend this sort of effluent with local dairy effluent such as what they are doing at Ha-Yogev where they are combining dairy effluent and domestic sewage for treatment.
Doesn't hurt to mention it anyway. As a Kiwi who loves to swim in our rivers it's depressing to see the decline in our water quality due to over-zealous dairy expansion and woefully inadequate effluent treatment and discharge standards.
Happy with today's announcement!
