    Spanish is a much purer language than English, hence its regularity of rules.

    It's all to do with the Norman conquest when the ruling class spoke French and the plebs spoke German. Over the next two hundred years the two languages became one. That is why there are so many words in English as well as closely related words, one of german derivation and one of latin (or French).For example, all our swear words are simply ordinary words that at the time happened to be German when the toffs spoke French.
