The death penalty is there for retribution and well deserved in many cases of child abduction, murder, and other more heinous crimes. There never was an argument that the death penalty prevents crime, there is plenty of argument for it being reserved for certain classes of crime.... and the taxpayer pays these hacks for writing this stuff?...

Any legal system that uses retribution as its guiding principle would be stooping to the level of the criminals in question - it would be no better than a lynchmob.
