A couple of posters have asked why 3D seismic did not pick up the early hydrocarbons-As I understand it, it is because seismic picks up on different rock types. It does not detect hydrocarbons per se, otherwise there would never be any dry wells drilled! The key with seismic is to detect rock types and rock formations where it is possible (probable) that gas/oil could be trapped.
