Hello Clubbie,
When it comes to commodities, elimination is almost guaranteed. Think of all that oil pumped out of the ground over the past 130 years. Where is it now? Except for relatively minor proportions being recycled, oil goes the way of most commodities and gets consumed.
Now consider gold. Most of the gold mined over the past 13,000 years is still with us, stored as tangible wealth. My baby sister wears my grandmother's engagement ring. My wife keeps her grandmother's gold jewelry. Even in it's "commodity" form, gold endures. The majority of it endures in secure vaults because of what it is; not a commodity at all but a repository of wealth.
As a world society, Clubbie, We humans have made your choice already. We are eliminating oil by using it as a commodity. We are hoarding gold as a store of wealth.
