Gold stocks are highly speculative and not the safe haven bullion is... look at rising taxes, rising costs, excessive equity dilution, political risk and outright nationalization as some of the factors to consider.

The red line below is the peak in Jan 1980. Note how gold stocks didn't outperform until AFTER the ultimate peak. From 1968 to 1980 bullion was the place to be during the bear market in stocks.
