What on Earth gave you the impression that the Internet "would replicate the paper world as closely as possible"?

Would it help you at all if I were to tell you that this impression is wrong? It was originally designed for military purposes as a robust wide-area network that could survive disruptions by dynamically redirecting communications around disabled links. The universities working on the project found it useful as a way of communicating (email) and exchanging documents. Once HTTP and HTML were developed it became possible for a human to directly access documents through a browser. The technology was so useful that it was made publicly available.

Could I ask some questions:
1) In what way do you believe the Internet is stagnant?
2) Do you have any data that suggests that this stagnation is happening?
