I think it's a case that if global yields are rising, the expected rate of return for annuities will be higher (i.e. for new business primarily there is more competition for Challenger annuities compared to other asset classes).

Surely, if yields rise, CGF will offer higher annuity rates to the public; on the other hand, they will also be able to invest the proceeds at a commensurately higher yield.
That being the case, what makes you think that, in a higher yield environment, annuity products will be less attractive vis-a-vis government/corporate bonds or dividend-paying stocks?
