Posters have previously highlighted that until recently Alcoa were probably getting rid of their waste for free using MHM. We don't know how much it costs them with the new agreement because we haven't been given the details yet. The status quo enables Alcoa to meet Australian standards on disposal of salt slag, they've only committed to it for another 12 months and for all we know they're using the time to work out a cheaper solution.
I'm hopeful that the Alcoa relationship will lead to something more, but at this stage nothing is certain.
