Nice post... It seems that financing queries have dramatically influenced both companies towards this conclusion..
The value offered to TMT was intitially a shock and I think if a fair value (even just by independent experts) was offered originally, then we wouldn't have seen close to the backlash we did...
There would still have been those who wanted to go it alone, but financing dictates where these companies go and regardless what we analyse as a good investment, if they simply want one company owning the whole thing, nothing else can be done but merge..
That being said, I think there is absolutely a good plan to be found during integration, enough good ore both sides to find a profitable BFS, hopefully all ego's can be set aside and both teams now have the exact same goal, to get this over the line to create an attractive package for financing. I have said what my favourable plan looks like a few times so won't repeat it, and I still have a lot of money betting Ian and the team assembled now are smarter than me and won't f this up.
Both AVL and TMT were deep into talks with NAIF, TMT likely bring $150mil export credit if we still go with FLSmidth for the kiln, that could realistically be $350 to $400 mil right there.
It's harder to assess what direct govenrnment financial backing looks like, but there isn't doubt they have a lot of green energy money they will celebrate going to a company like AVL with a critical battery metal, and obviously the downstream is marketable as a green energy industry builder in Australia..
The BFS is where the dollar turns on this one though IMO so my fingers and toes are crossed that they get this right.
