    I fully accept that Bill Shorten has nothing to answer to in relation to the allegation but there are 2 points to bear in mind. I understand the allegation was originally posted on Rudd's Facebook page (which is bizarre in the extreme for the alleged victim or her associates to do) so it wasn't made when or because Shorten was made ALP leader. The other point to remember is that the Vic Police thought there was enough in the allegation to prepare a brief of evidence to send to the Vic DPP, who declined on the basis that there was no reasonable prospect of conviction. If that was the DPP's view, no charges should ever be laid. If the victime is aggrieved by that decision, and it seems she certainly is, she can launch a private prosecution, as rare as they are, or sue for damages.

    I hope the matter dies off quickly, unlike the alleged Abbott wall punch farce which lasted for weeks as a hopelessly desperate David Marr tried to breathe life into it.

    Looks like more rain in Sydney for the weekend.
