Abbott gets no more than he deserves. He set his own standards for personal abuse and he set the bar very low indeed.

His party selected Abbott knowing exactly what he was like. His cauliflower ears tell of the punches to the head in his boxing days. Every one of those punches carried the potential for brain damage and the more punches he took, the greater the chances for significant brain damage.

Anyone who listens objectively to what he says will draw their own conclusions. A majority of us voted his outfit in at the last election. A majority of us will determine who leads our country after the next election.

Free and frank discussions regarding the competence of our leaders is a defining characteristic of a mature democracy. If we consider ourselves grown up enough, we should be able to discuss the competence of the prime minister to lead our country.
