Considering the average salary in Japan is only around 30k... That would be 1% of income before tax. Far from trivial.
And considering there is basically zero growth... For the past 15-20 years... Far from trivial.
Until recently the high yen was also severely effecting exports. So not likely they just pass on the extra input costs.
