I have never looked at short positions in my life. I'm not sure why we should assume that those that go short know any more or any less than those that go long. Once you take your cues from the market, then you are losing any value in taking responsibility for your investments, and, I believe, you might as well buy the market (such as via a highly diversified portfolio, or via an index fund) and direct your brain power elsewhere.
