A CROWD gathered on the pavement of Melbourne’s Collins Street on Friday night to watch ABC TV host Kerry O’Brien being thrown out of an upmarket bar after a disagreement with a bouncer…
A 42-year-old city financier was walking along busy Collins St with his 36-year-old girlfriend around 7pm when they saw O’Brien being carried out.
“There was a guy carried out under the arms by two burly bouncers, kicking his legs and yelling and screaming and saying: ‘Leave me alone’,’’ he said… “His eyes were very, very bloodshot, very pale."…
ABC national program director Alan Sunderland said O’Brien, 62, had been forced to leave the bar for questioning the authority of the security staff.
After being contacted by The Sunday Telegraph, Mr Sunderland said he had spoken to O’Brien and the manager of the bar and was assured his star interviewer was not drunk.
“Questioning the authority” of officials is safer when done in a TV studio, rather than a bar.
