Agreed, I've let far too many slip away. I now will write a report with a thesis for every investment, and I never sell until that thesis is either realised or until the fundamentals change in a way that makes that thesis no longer attainable. It's great for eliminating emotions as you don't risk falling in love with the company but at the same time, you avoid selling prematurely for whatever reason.
Sometimes the price may look high, but a few years later that high price can look super cheap (which is why I avoid setting price targets). Take NEU for example (thankfully I held all the way), $3 seemed high and like a good exit at the time, but looking back I wish I took out a loan and purchased all the shares I could at that price!
