I suspect the ASX may not deliver much joy today.
All European markets took a dive overnight - down around 1.3%.
In the US, the DOW fell 348 points. The NASDAQ Biotech Index was down 27 points. The NASDAQ Composite closed down 310 points.
The Russell small cap index also fell - down 27 points. A bit of a rout across all sectors in the US.
Main mover was the Fitch downgrading of the US credit rating from AAA to AA+. Still a good rating so it will be interesting how long the negative reaction to the downgrade will last. We have to hope that the markets short attention span will start to kick in rather than it being a start of some market correction.
The Fitch downgrade was brought about by the latest US debt ceiling stand-off - seems to be a millstone around the US economy that won't go away.
Probably a good day to plan that fishing trip today.
