That’s a more dire statistic than any pandemic or any other disease or illness ever surely? The game of life, or should I say game of chance, should not simply come down to eeny meenie minee moe.
Yet it beggars belief then that just $24B (US) was allocated for cancer research worldwide (grants), mostly (54%) coming from the US, although according to Academic research paper ‘The Conversation’ (June 2, 2023), some funding allocation per country is a little less transparent such as in the UK.
Even more worrying, is that funding had since dropped by a whopping 45%. That figure could be as a result of funds being diverted to COVID, so hopefully new statistics now Covid is easing off somewhat, will show some improvement back towards cancer.
It’s no wonder that private funding plays a much more important role, along with capital raises, such as the one we had recently. This is another reason I am glad the raise was done when it was. IMU places itself in a very enviable position here in Australia, even globally, given as we know, many research bio tech companies fold due to lack of funding.
@godiva - it is very shocking that 1 in 2 statistic. I have only lost 1 relative I know of in 40 odd years to this killer, my cousin in his early teens to leukemia, which devastated all of us, even me a younger teenager myself at the time. Yet our family have been lucky since and I hope it stays that way. I feel for all that suffer from any of the numerous forms cancer takes, and those close to them who feel helpless as they watch it take hold of their loved ones.
100% I am in this for money, I must confess. However, I also would love to be able to read one day soon that at last a cure, or something closer to a cure is announced, for at least some of the many cancers forced upon our people. If Imugene happens to be part of that announcement I know my family will benefit financially, but I will also shed a tear of happiness for many of the 1 in 2 in the UK at least, and however many here, who might be able to achieve a better outcome as a result.
So, onward IMU and for all of us here, 2024 looks very promising, both financially and hopefully for the 1 in 2 in the UK. GLTAH
