8% is high and shorters do cross trade - they want to make a profit after all. the short positions of 8% seem to be more traded than the other 92% as well. 8% is about 550mil shares so, not as small a figure.
My observation is that there is downward pressure on the SP when shorting positions are high. that is easily checked by the way. Maybe just another theory developed - but it does seem to have tracked that way.
I am hoping that short positions may drop off after the last announcement.
