Yep - the area is known as Research Triangle Park (RTP) - including three top class universities (Duke, North Carolina State, and University of North Carolina), two major cities (Raleigh and Durham), and a sprawling high tech campus of high-tech manufacturing and R&D known as Research Triangle Park (the space between the three universities).
I worked there for three years in the mid '80s. It was pretty amazing then, I can only imagine what it must be like now.
