The main reason for using onCARlytics is tag solid tumours with the CD19 marker so that CAR-Ts and other CD19 targeting drugs can find the solid tumours and act on them.

There is only a minor correlation between the effectiveness of Vaxinia and the potential effectiveness of onCARlytics, and that comes from the ability of CF33 to infect and only infect tumour cells.

The onCARlytics variant needs to be able to find solid tumours but does not need to kill tumour cells in its own right and that could simply be considered a beneficial side effect. onCARlytics is almost like a second chance, if any of the CF33 variants are unable to kill any tumours (acknowledging that early results are showing Vaxinia is highly likely going to be a very effective treatment option in at least one cancer indication) then onCARlytics ability to mark tumour cell provides an alternate treatment approach that is not normally suitable for solid tumours.

So, simply to re-emphasise the clarification, onCARlytics doesn’t have CF33 added to it, onCARlytics is CF33 with CD19 added. It is effectively the inverse to what watmighthavben is saying. Without CF33, the CD19 genes won’t be able to locate the tumours.

Anyway, regardless, it’s all irrelevant without clinical trial results so back to the waiting and watching the tumble weeds roll by wishing Imugene would provide additional information (such as precise enrolment numbers and cancer indications) so we have a better idea as to when we will likely find out more.
