I think it's important to realise that takeover bids come when products are generally already priced appropriately. A takeover bid at 3x current price should be considered a ridiculous concept, even in the low ball conservative circles. When you look at historic take over offers, they are generally 50-200% premium, but that is simply because the stocks are already priced appropriately. When the price and value have significant divergence, (as is the case with imu), a takeover offer would easily be many 1000's of a % premium. The market however, while it does generally price everything incorrectly, will eventually get its price closer to fair value parity as the waters become clearer. This usually precedes any take over offer, and why premiums are generally considered low.
Anyone who thinks that we are only going to get 300% or so on current prices are selling themselves significantly short, and likely have not done any meaningful research.
