First, let me say how sorry I am to hear about your daughter’s situation. I have daughters and I just can’t image what you and your family are going through at the moment.

Also, let me note, that I have no background on your daughter’s cancer or condition, so that should be considered when reading my following suggestions.

I am pleased to note that you have contacted Leslie, because she is most open to help in these matters, and she will do whatever she can.

She will need several things though ...

• She needs to know the exact details of your daughter’s condition, ie. cancer type, stage, current treatment, and so on. She will use this information to assess whether any IMU trial is suitable for your daughter (not as straight forward as many here would think), and if appropriate, is that trial still open?

• She will need to involve your daughter’s oncologist, for obvious reasons. She will have many questions for him/her.

• The supervising trial team would also want to do a range of tests.
• Your daughters condition, if she needs to travel, is also a consideration.

I can only hope her oncologist is supportive of this request ... a medical trial. Some specialists are either unaware of the work IMU is undertaking, or perhaps skeptical of this type of immunotherapy because it is still ‘experimental’.

If your daughter is eligible for an IMU trial, and it looks to be her last hope and, for some reason (too many to list), the oncologist tries to dissuade her ... then I would consider a different oncologist. This may sound outrageous, but your daughter must come first.

I know any parent will do whatever it takes ... so never give up. I wish you, and especially your daughter, all the best in this very challenging time. IMU doesn’t have a solution to every cancer yet, but it may already have an answer for your daughter.
