Thank you for posting. At the centre of the deal is as noted in the article Ambrx’s proprietary ADC technology incorporates the advantages of highly specific targeting monoclonal antibodies securely linked to a potent chemotherapeutic payload to achieve targeted and efficient elimination of cancer cells without the prevalent side-effects typically associated with chemotherapy.
Whilst Anti Drug conjugates are the flavour of the month in the M&A space when discussing oncology, it is worth noting they are ostensibly the messenger as opposed to the message. And despite the fact they are reducing the side effects of the message as it were (in this instance), and honing in on their precision when targeting their destination, they are in effect delivering outdated chemo and monoclonal antibody medicine. The deal here is for $2bn USD. That would equate to an Imugene share price close to IMU's all time trading highs on the ASX. But Imugene's immunotherapies offer so much more don't they? Whilst Imugene themselves are honing in on delivery and targeting through the development of their Oncarlytics platform, and collaborations with third parties, in essence their therapies possess the unique and novel technology capable of providing the killer shot. The message itself, as it were. The silver bullet, capable of not only stimulating ones immune system in the fight against cancer, but kill it dead in its tracks.
In recent years I have enjoyed seeing companies such as Seagen ($43bn USD), ImmunoGen ($10.8 bn USD) and now Ambrx ($2bn USD) earn huge dollars for their innovative technology. But I am content in the knowledge that Yuman Fong's Vaxinia is on course to provide Imugene shareholders with much much more in the fullness of time.
